Closest accessible parking

  • Two accessible parking bays in the carpark closest to the museum and toilets.
    Bays are on level bitumen and identified with ground markings. The rest of the parking area has unmarked bays.
    Bays are 2.9 and 2.3 metres wide and 5 metres long.
  • Vehicle access from: Almondbury Road
  • Pedestrian access: Level access from the bays to a wide level path leading to the museum.

External access and entrance
  • Access is on paving from the parking and picnic facilities to a paved courtyard outside the museum.
  • A ramp to the door is 3 metres long, 1 metre wide with a gradient of 1:14 and a handrail on one side. Alternatively there are 2 steps. There is a wide landing at the entrance door.
  • The double entrance door is 82cm wide with one door open. The door is opened by staff.

Internal area
  • There is sufficient space for people using wheelchairs and walking aids to move between displays. A room at the rear has a small step at the door, held open.
  • Some interactive displays are at sitting height.

  • The outside of the building has large signs in good colour contrast.
  • Display signs are generally easy to read with many signs at sitting height.

Toilet: Wireless Hill Reserve Unisex Accessible Toilet

  • Gender: Unisex
  • Availability: Daily 24 hours.
  • Customer use only: Public use toilet.
  • Signage: The symbol of access is on the outside wall and toilet door.
  • External access: From the front of the building across the paved courtyard to the wide path around the toilet block.
  • Toilet door: Directly off the outside path. The door is 85cm wide with a lever handle and large lock. The door is easy to open and has no closer.
  • Pan height: 42cm
  • Handrails: Yes
  • Basin height: 78cm
  • Lighting: On at all times.
