Closest accessible parking

  • One bay in the car park at the front of the community centre, identified by line markings. 
  • Bay is 3.9 metres wide and 5.5 metres long with a level and even bitumen surface.
  • Pedestrian access: Via a vehicle mountable kerb onto a 1 metre wide paved footpath up to the building entrance. Path has a gradient from 1:14 to 1:10 for approximately 9 metres.

External access and entrance
  • Access from the street footpath to the centre is via the driveway into the car park.
  • There is a paved footpath linking to the next door child care centre with the family centre.
  • Main entrance is a 79cm wide door that is heavy to open.  
  • Small reception foyer has seats with armrests.
Internal area
  • The centre has two large activity rooms, a smaller meeting room and staff offices.
  • The floor is vinyl throughout.
  • The reception counter is located at a central kitchen area.
  • Staff assistance is however generally provided from the doorway of the staff office.
Signage, customer displays and customer information
  • External signage is in capital letters, white on a mural background.
  • Information brochures on display in the entry foyer are at standing height.
Play area
  • Large play area at the rear of the activity rooms, down a sandy and grassy slope.
  • One large play area is set on soft fall material. Access to the play area is over sand and grass.
  • A community garden is located at the rear of the centre, with access via the side slab area. This garden has raised garden beds and there is enough space for users of wheelchairs and walking aids to move through.

Toilet: Unisex Toilet Armadale Community Centre

  • Gender: Unisex
  • Description: A unisex accessible toilet opposite the activity rooms.
  • Signage: Identified by the words ‘Baby Care Toilets’, with capitalised black print on a silver background.
  • External access: Located directly off the central foyer area, next to the staff office.
  • Main entrance: Door is 82cm wide with a lever handle. The door is heavy to open and fast to close.
  • Toilet door: An 82cm wide swing door that is light to open with no self closing mechanism. It has a lever handle and small lock. There is restricted space around the door handle and within the small entry area where there is a fixed baby change table. This may restrict access for users of larger wheelchairs.
  • Pan height: 46cm

  • Basin height: Located at child height of 61cm.
  • Lighting: High switch in cubicle.
  • Baby change table: Yes
  • Baby change table description: A fixed bench style baby change table located within the entry foyer of the accessible toilet. The bench is 90cm high.

  • Both activity rooms have doors 80cm wide with a lever handle. Generally both are held open.
  • Trestle tables 73cm high with 71cm knee clearance, chairs without armrests.
  • Children’s chairs and table are also provided.
  • Both activity rooms open to a paved verandah.
